2011 is almost gone (well, its gone in Japan already)
But its just another day change, no need to get too heady
Lifes a work in progress, not a trip counter in your automobile
It doesnt re-set when the numbers change, and that is talk thats real

Its been a good year in the Barsh universe
I made some moves and changed my game up, which was a blessing not a curse
The people close to me are thriving, I've been fortunate as heck
2 of my dearest just beat cancer, they avoided the trainwreck

Palter Ego's been on TV, both in person and in song
I'm really proud of how our sound's evolved, new stuff will be out before long

As a producer I have made big strides this year, which makes me happy
Cuz when i started that 6 years ago, my sound was pretty crappy

I've produced tracks for Norah Jones, Def Jam's brand new artist Wax
And Maurice Brown's remix album (lets hope they lead to money stacks :)

Co-wrote 5 songs for the upcoming Sony France record of Robin Mckelle
Performed with Common, Quadron, Fred Wesley and Estelle
Spent half my time in NYC and half in LA LA land
Been hustling daily like Rick Ross, and things have gone (mostly) as planned

I'm pumped up for 2 thousand 12, into it i plan to delve headfirst
I wish the best to all of you, lets make this year the best not worst
With much love and respect I wish you all an awesome night
And for those who'll be hungover, hydrate before bed and you'll be alright.

the barsh report is back and not necessarily better than ever
but i promise i will do my best to write rhymes that are clever
quality is always on my mind, i sacrifice it never
so lets go ahead and get it started, time to pull the lever

Jesse Palter and the Alter Ego's name has undergone a trim
Now its simply Palter Ego, twas chubby and now its slim
Was not decided hastefully or merely on a whim
But ultimately we like it more, like drinking Jack instead of Jim

Theres alot of crazy happenings in the news these days
It's enough to put a music dude's noggan in a haze
People occupying wall street, health insurance raising rates
Republicans and Democrats refuse to go on dates

The banks, they run this country, with our cash they masturbates
If they make mistakes they're fine, but our economy deflates
They get to come either way, whether or not their choices win
While the interests of the masses are discarded like foreskin

Health insurance companies need to sit down and go to their room
They are like a bratty child that should have been spanked with a broom
Do what they want, when they want it, always talk back when addressed
If the nation's health was a toddler, that child they surely would molest

As for the political parties that won't even sit at the same table
The fight for the lesser of two evils is getting less and less tolerable
Like two male horses fighting over who gets the mare at the stable
Hopefully one day we'll look back and learn from this, like an Aesop's fable

My ranting is done for now, there's more coffee to be drunk
I hope I've entertained you, and not put you in a funk
Cuz life is still a good time, even with all of this junk
And since there is no NBA right now, ill leave u with a Sam dunk.

the summer's gone bye bye, at least officially
but society's distinctions frankly dont mean shit to me
the powers say that summer's stay is from Memor to Labor Day
but as long as sun's still here in which we have the chance to lay,
summer remains. Its my favorite season for a reason, if it were a man then I'd be gay.

Well then, where did we leave off at?
Oh yes, the Twist Out Cancer benefit was nothing 'tall to scoff at
Money was raised, music created
It was packed to the brims, so personal space was invaded
Via over-drinking, many people were sedated
But the party raged till late-night, for the wee hours it was fated
Afterwards, i hope at least a couple people got fellated
Or at least got some numbers and eventually got dated

The Red Sea Jazz Festival was a treat of all treats
We spiced up the Jazzy atmosphere with our brand of hyped-up beats
Played 2 concerts, took some risks, signed mad John Hancocks on sold discs
Ben Williams and Gene Coye killed it with their groovealicious tricks
After the fest we played more licks, at the jam sessions till 6
And for you safety hawks who say, "Israel? tisk tisk,"
Security kept it real by doing plenty stop-and-frisks

Got some swim time in the Red Sea, then went up north to the Med Sea
Hung out in Tel Aviv and Jerus (unfortch this time i missed the Dead Sea)

After that great ride, i'm back stateside, with music ready to provide
In LA this weekend for a couple shows, through which I hope you slide

Got a hot band of west-coasters that originate from the Chi
Vashon Johnson and Iajhi Hampden KILLING the Alter Ego music, no lie

And finally for you music loons, the new EP is on ITunes!

My writing starts clean then might go south, like the career of Jessie Spano

Endearing but sometimes goofy, like a person whose laughs include snorts

The summer has been a nice one, many positive things've been brewing

Been working on a few things at once, the to-do list items are queuing

The real life version of simultaneous juicy fruit, bubble-yum and trident chewing.

It really holds the scene together (people told me, i'm not being snooty)

Made a video featuring "Take Me With You" that has me pleasantly bewitched
It's a stop-motion feelgood filmgasm, yes it's worth surely worth a peek
It went semi-viral after being featured by Andrew Sullivan on the Daily Beast last week
And nearly 10,000 youtube views later
It's logged more hits than my friend's college bong (which he called Darth Vader)

So I'm back after a social media break

I was snoozing on my twitter posts, but now i'm tweet awake

I spaced out off of my facebook; I've reattached the book to face

And most importantly, the Barsh report is back in place!

Its a new year and new things are going down

I'm on tour in Europe now, then I'm back in NY town

Time to spread the good word 'bout my last couple months, like a 7th-Day Adventist

November was a jump-around of tri-coastality

NY-LA-NY-EU was my reality

The Barsh Band show at the Blue Note was a hot event for sure

After which an entire night awake my body did endure

For i flew to LA the next day, at 6 oclock in the morn

I felt more out of wack than a duo of Johns: Elton and Zorn

Spent some good time in LA working, playing and writing

I stayed with Jesse P at her new WeHo digs, and we got some hella exciting

News, we got our first placement from our original EP!

The Webbie awards licensed our optimist-anthem "Happy"

Mark your calendars Chicago people, we've secured a place

For our rescheduled big show, March 23 in Evanston at the SPACE!

After that I did 2 weeks in europe rocking keys for Robin McKelle

Which included thanksgiving in rural France, so no turkey this year..oh well

December brought some sideman gigs, I spent Christmas out of town

Also produced a remix of "The Connection" by Maurice Brown

Now the new year's here, and you know i'll come correct

Thus, this week I'm doing a few shows with Rick Parker and Hernan Hecht

Hernan rocks with Latin pop stars, his drum grooves are super trusty

Rick is a slide-wielding Brooklyn beast, and his trombone is never rusty

And at the end of next week on saturday Jan 29

The Sam Barsh Band takes on the feel of a fine wine

By presenting a finely-aged musical combination

That has benefitted from both time apart and musical saturation

My band will feature Mark Guiliana on drums, my longtime collaborator

And new alliance Aidan Carroll on the bass, chomping grooves like a hungry alligator

I have some new tunes that will really feature

These 2 sicknasty musical creatures

Yes, Jesse is saying goodbye to Chicago, with a touch of sadness

But moving to LA with a boatful of gladness

Her love for the midwest is surely not lost

But she's ready to pursue her dream at whatever the cost

Los Angeles is where Jesse's career is primed to blossom

So if you have any magic beans, then westward you may toss them!

Barsh Report Labor Day 2010

I write you as another labor day passes

And I am about to hit the sack and take off my glasses.

Happily the summer weather is sticking 'round like molasses

So no need yet to grab the parkas or long undies for your asses

The month of august has been a good 'un

A healthy mix of work and good fun

I took my annual trip to Maine, for the Bar Harbor Jazz fest

It was full of outdoorsiness and great music, i surely do not jest

A Barsh Band gig was done on the famed Village Green

And i was so relaxed, even my trademark grimace-while-playing looked a little less mean.

Then played a bunch of different shows with a tight set of musicians

Working thru the different tuneage like a group of statisticians

On a couple shows we chose to forego charts, we made that tough decision

So we wouldn't shit on the music like a flock of well-fed pigeons.

See, when you have some hard-ass music but no time to rehearse

Its opportunity to be played correctly dies, and should be brought away in a wee hearse.

Thus, on 2 of the shows where we just showed up and played

We flipped some standards we all knew, and great music was made.

Shout to Ned Ferm, Ryan Blotnick, Bill Mchenry and Rj Miller

Devin Gray, Kristin Slipp, Kim Cass, and for rhyme's sake, Jerry Stiller.

I've also been editing and finalizing some new recorded music, so stay tuned

My goal is to have you musically fed, drunk, sexed, slapped, and mooned

Finally, since if you're still reading this you're all (like me) rhyme geeks,

I'll give a synopsis of the 7 days before and after Labor day 2010-a tale of two weeks:

1. last week - no gigs but busy like gulf oil rigs.

3 days of writing intensely as hell, with Derek Nievergelt and Robin McKelle.

Impromptu limo chartering, rental car bartering.

Barely slept and felt kinda dirty,

went way upstate for a wedding (mighty purty), couple friends o mine turned 30. Mcgurdy

‎This week - shows every night, will attempt to treat my body right.

Thursday Sept 9 is the big AABARAKI/PVD/SAM BARSH TRIPLE BILL, gonna be ill!

Tues at Cornelia St, and Weds uptown at Sugar Bar, for you uptowners that hate travelin far.

Friday is in BK, then Saturday I'm free to play, sunday to europe i fly away, hey hey hey!

Summer heat is upon us, and the surefire way to beat it

Is for me to write a Barsh report and for you all to read it!

For these rhymes will cool your skin and bones much better than A/C

They'll make your heated blood go cold, like thoughts of sex with a gay tree

Well, theres a lot to tell, because in the prose-writing dept. ive been lazy as hell

You would have thought my skills were rotting and starting to smell

But in fact, they're intact,

The words are flowing as expected, like an un-infected

urinary tract.

Ok, lets get these thoughts unpacked.

Well I just got back to NYC after about 3 months away.

First in Europe for 7 weeks, then a month spent in LA

Europe was a blast, traveled from west to south to east

With the fabulous vocalist Robin Mckelle, who's music is a feast.

Combining hors d'oeurves of swing, a hearty soup of soul,

A sweet slab of the blues, served with a "this is how we" roll

A digestif of funky and dessert that's smooth and sweet

(You'd be 'rexic if that didn't make you hungry for a treat)

After Robin's smorgasbord of great music is done

I find myself trekking cross continent, from eastern France to Lisbon

To play the first Barsh solo tour in europe yet

Aided by the wonderful musicians from Lisbon's Groove 4tet.

1 problem: I was caught up in the volcanic ash that grounded all those flights

So I embarked on a 2-day journey whose humour rivaled "Robin Hood's Men in Tights"

My 3-legged train ride from Nice to Madrid, Spain

Lost its 3rd leg b/c of a train strike in France (i can't imagine the pain)

So i had to get a replacement, in the form of a bootleg bus

I sprinted there with 3 heavy bags, but the driver was making no fuss.

He took his sweet azz time and the trip took 2 hours longer than expected.

Dropping me off in Barcelona at the wrong train station; i was tired but not dejected.

I ran across town, up stairs and down, trying not to frown, sweating like a fat clown

My boxers were black (but had they been white they may well have been brown)

I made it to my final train with 10 mts to spare

En route to Madrid, yes; but with nowhere to sleep once i got there...

Luckily i awoke to an email on my phone

With the contact of a mutual friend who welcomed me to crash at his home

But when i called him, he thought i was coming the next day

And was playing poker that night, but invited me to hang anyway

So i rolled up to a top floor apt, smokey and full of pet birds

Members of Paco De lucia's band and some other players, exchanging gambly words

I tried to stay awake but twasn't long before i crashed

I slept fully clothed and fanny-packed while money was lost and many cigs were ashed

I awoke feeling strangely okay, and my friend Antonio brought me

To the bus station, and 8 hrs later i was in lisbon to play music from "I Forgot What You Taught Me"

The Portugal week was amazing, 5 concerts, a clinic, late night fun, beach and drinks

Just returned from a vacation with my fam in mexico

At a secluded condo village, locked away like Plaxico

But unlike the former Giant, who's behind the bars in jail

We were stuck with a private beach, which just never did get stale

Luckily 'twas 80 degrees and sunny, not no rain nor hail

And Mom, Sy and me complemented each other well, like a co-ed Parrish/Bird/McHale

Now its back to work and boy is there some work to do

February NYC events surely are abrew

Im playing this sunday merely 2 days from this point

At a club in Williamsburg that has quickly become THE joint

Rose Live Music, with the trio i toured in October with

Music will be fresher than a newborn, but less painful than a Brith

Feb 20th i will lead a special project at Jazz Underground series (wow)

Taylor Eigsti and I will play 2 pianos, kicking fire like the O'leary's (cow)

Also in this month im playing a few cool sideman dates

at the Blue Note and the Sugar Bar, a place that no one hates

Also Jersey with some cool bands, and a Haiti benefit

Alright y'all, finally back in NYC for a spell after most of 2 months gone

Been a crazy series of 4 trips, i barely had time to yawn

I think already wrote about mexico, i left my heart there in a tequila bottle

And the Brand New Heavies east coast tour was no less than full-throttle

Following that i spent 2 weeks in chi doing heavy marketing and studio work

With my girl Jesse Palter, such a great person ( i guess as her Alter Ego that makes me a jerk...)

The Mi-Sam-mi tour had great shows and clinics, and the weather was far from harsh

Spent my free days on SoBe and on a killa boat trip; might have to change my name to sandbar-sh

Shout to Chad, Rodolfo and Reuben, who hooked up that trip real nice

Wasn't sure what to expect from MIA, but it was a fruitful roll of the dice

Also did a hott session at DJ Le Spam's incredible studio

And exercized my Spanish; de verdad, una buenissima tiempo tuve yo

After a few days back in NYC, having had no time to recover yet

I cut out to LGA thanksgiving morning and headed on another jet

Ran into 4 friends on the flight to Chitown, and commenced drinking at 2PM central

A good remedy for all the travel-induced moodswings (i was starting to feel kinda menstrual)

After a nice T-giving catching up with fam and friends, which was notably quite cool

I hit up the 10-year reunion of my alma mater, New Trier Township High School

Me and some old musical homies threw together a set of tasty numbers

And played for and caught up with some childhood friends, none of whom became plumbers

Which was a bit suprising, since back in the day, alot of those New Trier types

Were notorious for knowing their way around all sorts of bowls and pipes

Now i'm back in my home city grinding out some gigs and sessions

And some meetings and a showcase with the Alter Ego where we plan to make splendid impressions!

Thus, on Friday December 11, a long-awaited happening

Jesse Palter and the Alter Ego back in NYC and doing our DAMN thing!

Our live show is Hottastic and we're ready to unleash the beast

Plus we got 3 new tracks 'bout in the can and ready to be released

Throw in a couple spicy covers of some classic 80's jams

And you'll be shakin your hips, synching your lips, and kicking your denim-clad gams

Im gonna rhyme out exactly what i'm meaning to say

It has been a great fall replete with both winter and summer weather

From the sunny skies of Mexico where theres no need to wear leather

To the freezing tundra of Chitown and the Northeast US

Which has lately been requiring decidedly winter dress

Did a 10-day tour with Rick Parker and Hernan Hecht in our neighbor to the south

Mexican audiences were awesome, and the food was a party in my mouth

Made a bunch new fans, and even gave a couple clinics speaking in spanish

And despite the rumors of kidnappers galore, i succeeded not to vanish

Jesse Palter and I are working hard on our next batch of four songs

TBR (to be recorded) soon, with hopes they'll make an impact like King Kong's

Though more constructive than the big ape, we dont wanna destroy cities

We'd much rather be the soundtrack for record label committees

So as i write now from the hometown of Bam Margera of Jackass

On tour with the Brand New Heavies, getting ready to smack-ass

Tonight at a venue called the Note

They should rename the concert "Murder She Wrote"

Cuz the band has been KILLING the last few shows

Along with my horn playing bros

Teodross Avery and Maurice Brown

shits been hott in every town

NYC was an MCfest, with a double-dose of legit

Pharaohe Monch and Sadat X came and hit the stage to spit

Were hitting the northeast this week, then ending in Chitown

Gonna make like the O'Leary cow and burn the jointt down!!

Once I return to the Chi, i will be there for a chunk of time

Recording with Jesse and doing our show on Nov 2, which will be sonically sublime

Then i will head to southeast Florida to make a very Barshy cameo

This country was created, and it's been a great run, yo
(In case you were wondering, I spent about 2.5 minutes doing that math
But it was time well spent for the country which has provided the backdrop for both the New Jack City and The Grapes of Wrath)

long bus rides, and an hour and a half drive in a red VW hatchback?
Yes.

Was the first gig of the tour at the only nuclear power plant in all
of the former yugoslavian republics? Yes.

Do I have a third leg after playing there? Yes, but some say I already had one.

For the 1st 3 nights of the tour did we stay at igor's (the
bandleader) parents' house in a picturesque small town in the
slovenian countryside? Yes.

Is his mother a master at cooking various eastern European delicacies,
including healthy and vegetarian options? Yes.

Are his parents wonderful people? Definitely.

Do they speak any English? No.

Did his father attempt to speak to me in slovenian for a few minutes
at the start of every meal? Yes.

Do I know 3 words in slovenian? No

Do I know one? Yes, dobro. It means super.

Am I staying in igor's sisters room? Yes.

Is igors sister staying there as well? No, she is in grad school in
the capital city of ljubljana, studying macrobiology and pharmacy.

In order to get to her room, must one walk through the unfurnished 3rd
floor, replete with piles of roughly cut wood, patchy carpeting and no
less than four whole smoked pork legs hanging from the ceiling?
Yes.

Do I have photos to prove it? Indeed.

Did we go work out at a fitness center in Igor's hometown? Yes.

Could the few cardio machines they had be used as ironic decorative
furniture at an American apparel store? yes.

Was there a bathroom in the fitness center? Yes.

Was it necessary to walk through a storage closet to get to said bathroom? Yes.

Were there multiple, fully decorated Christmas trees stored in the
bathroom? Yes.

Are there pictures of me attempting to shower amidst this yuletide
shrubbery? Yes (truth be told I was wearing pants but you can't see
that in the photos)

So, did that trip from France to Croatia actually take 13 hours? No.

Wow really? Yes, it took 16.

Where exactly did you drive to and from? From the border of France and
Germany to the border of Croatia and Hungary.

Was the bus driver a machine? Yes.

Did he smoke a whole pack of cigarettes while driving? Probably more.

Did, upon entering a rest stop at 4am, I wretch and almost vomit on
myself upon smelling the vile odor of day-old marzipan and vegetable
oil receptacles the Germans call pastries? Yes.

Did, in the middle of the drive, Igor stop the van unannounced and go
for a 20 minute visit with his girlfriend's grandmother in zagreb,
Croatia? Yes.

Did we wait in the parking lot of a nearby gas station while this
meeting happened? Yes.

Did we perform 2 nights ago in Linz Austria, on the border of Hungary? Yes.

Was I tired as balls because I had slept for 9 hours in the past 3 and
half days? Yes

Was there a strange pesudo-bowling alley in the basement of our hotel,
where I had a drink with some austrian nationalists, but diffused the
situation by talking about how I once saw Natalie Portman on the
street in New York ?( which is a lie because I saw her at the Tel Aviv
Airport but I didnt want to bring up israel) Yes.

After arriving back in slovenia after a 7-hour train ride, did
previously referenced red VW hatchback cease to run, and being
spitting thick smoke out of the tailpipe? Yes.

Did we get a ride to our gig last night from a guitar player named
Blue who wears shiny velcro shoes? yes.

Am I using the internet for the first time in 3 days? No, the 1st time
in a week. I have been writing you from my blackberry.

Tour Q&A Part 1

I just returned from an Eastern European tour with saxophonist Igor Lumpert and Drummer Tommy Crane, didnt have internet access for about a week so this post is alil late, but here is a synopsis of the tour in Q&A form, originally sent from my blackberry while driving across Austria at 4AM

Did I play a gig yesterday at world cancer day at the EU parliament building in strassbourg France? Yes

Did we drive through the night for 9 hours immediately after a gig in the capital of slovenia, ljubljana? Yes.

Does our van driver look like an eastern European version of the narrator from "the big lebowski?" Yes.

Is he wearing an off white denim jacket that says "hot gossip?" yes.

Upon arriving at 1030am, did I smoke a cigar outside of the EU parliament building, on world cancer day? Yes.

Was the irony lost on me? No.

Was the band introduced by the former slovenian prime minister, who is now an MeP (member of europes parliament)?

Is he a member of the main conservative party in EU parliament? Yes.

Is he also a big environmental activist? Yes.

Why do conservatives in the USA hate environmental activism? I wish I knew.

Were there 20 people watching our performance? Maybe.

Was mahmoud abbas speaking at the same time as our show? Yes.

Did his speech chafe some people away from our potential audience? Maybe, though our performance styles are likely a bit different.

After the gig, did we get a tour of the 2 parliament floors, where europes laws are written and voted on? Yes.

Did I beat box on the microphone of one of the parliament members' seats? Yes.

Was it broadcast throughout the entire voting hall? Yes.

Was I booted off the mic immediately? Yes.

Was I booted off before I was able to capture video of the event? No, I copped a video of it.

Did we go back to a 2 star hotel and sleep from 7 pm till 2 am? Yes.

Did we have our own rooms? No.

Was Tommy's (the drummer) bed 3 inches away from mine? Yes.

Was it resting on a stationary i.e. Unmovable bed frame? Yes.

Did this proximity inhibit me from engaging in natures #1 stress relieving activity? Yes.

Was there 30 seconds worth of respectably hot water in the shower? Maybe 40.

Are we now at the beginning stages of a 13 hour driving day that will terminate at a gig in a small town in Croatia? God willing.

Is the fog thicker than Santa's beard? Santa doesn't exist but if he did yes.

Am I alternating swiggs of homemade schnapps out of a plastic bottle with gulps of eastern European spring water? Yes.

Will there be another tour Q&A later? Probably.

Hey everyone I'm quickly back
Just finished editing a track
For "The Years" upcoming record treat
Its called "Broken Heart" and its not sad, but bittersweet

And after the night's final listen
"Broken Heart" got me reminiscin'..

About 11 months ago today
I was spending a week in warm LA.
I flew in from New York on Super Bowl sunday
Got picked up at LAX by my friend Andrew Crowley
Made a quick stop at his home, that's in Marina Del Rey
Went to Trader Joe's, got some supplies then made our way
Up to watch the game at the plush home of soul star Macy Gray

Damn that was alot of fun
I'm still amped that the Giants won
I ate alot and drank a ton
Corona, Rum and Ketel One

Went back that night to the Standard downtown
And fully clothed, still drunk I laid myself down
Turned on the TV and fell fast asleep
To highlights of the Patriots' failed sweep

That week was spent preparing for
One special concert, wish there could have been more
The Brand New Heavies were the centerpiece of the night
Then 3 other artists sang with us and damn they got it right
Eric Roberson, Vikter Duplaix and Caron Wheeler too
Made for a great concert and one very Happy Jew (actch maybe two)

Anyway, I love LA, but not in that star-worship way.

I think there are alot of people being mad creative there
And mountain ranges and big breasts are not bad things at which to stare
That being said, about New York I aint complainin
After all its January 7 and its not snowing its just rainin
Now that is all your going to get tonite from this here head

House of Blues in Chicago and Jeff C's house on MDI
Did a WGN TV spot with Ross Bon's Mighty Blue Kings
Where we shared the stage with the world's fastest golfer; my how quick he swings!

Speaking of swings, now I'm getting back into it
All this holiday drinking's made me not want to do it

So its time to go on detox, cuz last nite I had 6 beers
Could have been feeling real tipsy, even crying liquor tears
But I didnt feel a damn thing, got my tolerance up high
And I don't think that I need to taste guinness next time I cry
So for a few days beer and whiskey its: bye-bye

Sigh..

Its fuckin late, sorry to swear,
I feel like friggin Yogi Bear
Right now my mind is sauce like marinara
Smudged around like bad mascara

We're rocking steady at 2 different venues in the world's largest Casinhotel

The 4 pools and free personal trainers are quite a treat
And exotic foods offer mad options to eat

Audiences are insonsist, cuz the full Macau experience has yet to exist

Hello Hello Hello!
So fast the summer does go go go,

I hope you all have caught your share of outdoor action
And that whatever projects you may be pursuing have gained some serious traction
I hope you beach people have gotten beach time
I hope you fruit eaters have gotten peach time

And I hope you educators have gotten a solid break from teach time

I myself have been enjoying myself immensely
Ive taken a couple weekend trips between working mad intensely
I'm producing 5 artists right now, living in the studio
And still touring, as I write you now from Toronto
A manageable load, maybe it's not
But I'm loving every minute of it, so i guess that's hot

The amazing bassist who has purveyed a musical mixture all his own

And I'm very excited, you might say elated
To bring my band back to Chicago Sept 20, for a very belated
Chitown CD Release celebration event
(the CD's been out for a few months, my where the time went!)

Restored to its original 1930's decor, the vibe in there is swells (yes bad rhyme I know)

Though mired in production for other artists (which I truly adore)
I'm stoked to start performing my stuff some more
The fall 2008 will be dedicated to my band
After Chitown, Detroit and NYC I'm off to asian lands
To headline the Ambassador Club in the Chinese island of Macau

LA CD Release, Communicational mishaps

First off, my apolls for those to whom i may have seemed aloof
My blackberry started erasing txts and emails, and that is the troof
One second they would be there, then my phone would vibrate and poof!
Whatever new messages i had jumped out like a cat on a hot tin roof.

So for a couple weeks there were some messages i did not get-
If i did not return your correspondence, that i do regret.
It's my own fault, cuz treated that phone like Barb Bush treated baby George, dropping it too many times
But i got a new / used one from my good friend Erin, so i'm back in biz; now its time for more positive rhymes!

Currently i am not sleeping at all in the wake of my trip to LA
Not that i'm over-excited or drugged, the nite has just turned out that way.
I just played a show with the mighty blue kings at the hilton in downtown chicago
And now I am typing this blog while enjoying my Mom's crib's phaat view of the Lago

Goin manana out to LA, which is required to spell the word "law"
And because I got my ticket on mileage i have to transfer in Northwest Arkansas
Its aight tho cuz ill be psyched to touch down in the homestate of the Razorback
Besides i heard that their airport has a tequila bar, stripclubs and laser tag

So while in LA, I'll be doing my premier gig as a bandleader
At a nice spot called Land, its a club not a theater
Its my west Coast CD Celebraish, and a crazy double bill

Hello to all my people, how do you do?
This is my latest blog edition, from spring tour part 2
I'm currently in Canada, feeling good not blue
And I've been taking plenty of oregano oil, to prevent me from

In the past week and a half, since havin dinner in the Chi with my
bro and Dad
I've been jumpin around like a bullfrog from lilypad to lilypad
Came back to NYC, was tired as hell, but the place was clean so it
did not smell
(thanks to David B. who house sat for me, but my internet wasn't good
enough, so elsewhere he did flee)

After a short 3 days at home, during which i did not unpack
( I opened my suitcase but it just sat there, cuz my lazy ass is
wack)
I pushed off to Washington DC to perform with Sarah Morrow
Whose band Elektric air is full of good vibes, never sorrow.
The cats came from all over; Nate from ATL and Jahi from LA
Earl and me from NYC and Sarah straight from gay (Paris)

The shows were hott, and though the audience was pushing the age
bracket
Sarah won them over with her Puma moon boots and white trench-jacket

From DeeC I slept 4 hours then was off to Santa Fe
'twas hectic bro, but New Mexico was worth the busy day
I played with Rez Abbasi at a real nice spot called GiG
Had some killa pizza then played to a packed house (truth be told,
the spot wasnt that big)

Then a long drive thru the desert dodging hella tumbleweeds
Led us right into El Paso where we did undirty deeds
3 clinics and a show were really fun and inspiraish
Props to Marty and the crew for keeping arts alive in the very tip of
our great naish

The Tuscon gig was just a plus, but turned into a total bust
Cuz no one came, was kinda lame, but we still got paid so lucky us!
That brings me to where i sit now, having digested a killer calzone
Along with todays college basketball games, and now drinking beer all
alone.

Dont feel bad for me though cuz i'm having a jolly old time,
And I've sincerely enjoyed the creation of this edition of my
blog-rhyme.

I myself just finished the first week of a month-long jaunt

I started off in Portland, Ore. with Rez Abbasi's Bazaar
Though due to NY's blizzard I almost didn't get that far
But thanks to all my friends who kept me out late last thursday nite
I went straight to the airport and got on the early flight

Rez has praise for days and days from some of music's finest
For his blend of Indian music with jazz; most folks wouldn't even try this!
The results are hott - Rez shreds guitar while Kiran sings so sweetly
And me and Dan Weiss, play crazy and nice, while telling jokes not so discreetly

From Vancouver to Vancouver Isle ( and yes they're not the same )
To Frisco, LALA and San Shaede, the shows were FAR from lame
After we finished rockin, I stuck around in the city of halos
To make a record called "The Years" which already sounds way better than any of J. Lo's

The raw tracks are down, and once production is done, this shit will be slicker than a Matrix-Style trenchcoat made of Argentinian leather
Mad props to Gabe Noel and John Gillilan of Vosotros who put it all together
And to the seriously dope musicians on the sessions who choose to live in warmer weather
(Otherwise they'd be burning up New York like a fur coat stuffed with down feathers)

I also got a chance to reconnect with some people from my past
Who now live in LA, and the hangs were a blast

Anyways, now I'm off to Chilly Chi
To do some hits with my favorite violin guy
Zach Brock, but not with the Coffee Achievers
Its a new project, so keep your ears open like a pair of wide receivers

Speaking of wide receivers, peace to the Giants winning the Super Bowl
Now all you haters can put your lips on Eli Manning's pooper hole.

After years of chiseling down my sound, I now bring to the table
My debut set of music on the RazDaz Recordz label.
It's an amalgam of my influences, both musical and not
No one word describes it, but if I had to pick one, it'd be "hot"

So what does it sound like, you ask? well...

Its like getting in a hot tub as the water warms your body
Massaged by air jets while chilling out next to scantily clad hotties.
It will beam you up and takes you places, just like Star Trek's Scotty
Pack a punch but go down smooth much like a Jameson Hot Toddy.

So to keep it short and keep it really real,
This record was made to make you feel.
To make you groove and sing along, a soundtrack to your night or day.
And whether you love it or whether you don't, I wouldn't have done it any other way.

Certain things happen in life that let you know you're an adult,

Like when your friends start having kids or when your uncle joins a cult.

When you could just watch the Simpsons but you watch Oprah instead

Or when you have more bills to pay than you have hairs upon your head.

That being said...

There'r many things we do that keep us young.

Like flings with younger mates (lets call them "floungs")

Or keeping all our clothes upon the floor, instead of hung.

Not sure why i'm ranting on age

Guess i'm just at that stage

Where half of everyone that i grew up with's settling down

Moving to the suburbs, or the outskirts of town.

And the other half is living like they're on spring break all year

Putting real life on call-waiting while they have another beer.

I guess I'm somewhere in the middle

Sort of like the concrete slab a see-saw rests on.

Because i kinda feel like an adult

But I sure as hell ain't ready to be married, and see my spouse's breasts on

Display, at the playground while the kids play

Breast-feeding my son his baby Tanqueray

Well, if all this age-banter is starting to make you sick

Now the times are quickly changing, person- and technologic-ally
What with facebook walls, gay sex in stalls, and Pam and Tommy Lee
(wait that was 5 years ago,

Anyway, '07 came and went.
On wars and clothes big bucks were spent,
Bob Barker died (so hard he tried

to have us get our pets neutered or spayed)

The Hollywood screen-writers told the studios to go get bent

The Broadway strike had many tourists missing out on Rent

And billions of hours of gaming marvel "Second Life" were played

Alot of people did some drugs

New Yorkers loved their tiny pugs

Who fit inside their Fendi purses

And peed upon their trendy rugs

(we hope not, but it happens sometimes.

and sometimes when rhyming you gotta use the word "rhymes")

Now that '08 is coming fast around the bend

I'm inviting all of you to buck the trend

Don't make a resolution, bail, and then make an excuse

Just make life a little better by giving love and keeping loose.

Yes the stress that we all go thru can feel tight just like a noose

Barsh's Rhyming Report Dec. '07

Welcome, everybody, to the Barsh Report
It's a periodic rhyming e-newlsetter of sort
Letting you know what i'm upto, without being too serious
And its currently 2:30 am so dont blame me if i seem delirious

First off, the Barsh Report's most delicious cherry
My new record, I Forgot What You Taught Me" is done, and will be out in February!

It features a collection of hott jams, vibe tracks, and soulful hits
And how can you go wrong with song titles such as Jew Hefner and T.I.T.S.?

Its definitely cold outside, which is kind of a bummer
So what do we do when its freezing out? reminisce about the summer!
I got to tour with some bands i hadn't toured with before
Trombonist Sarah Morrow for a week in France, the Brand New Heavies for a little more
J Records phenom Emily King hit me up to do some hits at the last minute
And I was free and down, so I jumped up in it!

I also did some clinics with Zach Brock in Kentucky and Ohio
And ate some chili along the way at famed Skyline
And thanks to a good look by Adam Hertz
The Sam Barsh Band did our first show at The Ballroom called Highline!

Such a dope place, beautiful space, fans right in your face
If you havent seen a show there, you're a cultural discgrace

(not really, but you should check it out, a well-needed and fresh addition to the NYC music scene www.highlineballroom.com )

So that was the summer; and once the autumn came
It became time for me to step up my cyber-game.
I have a brand new website (the address is still the same - sambarsh.com or barshmusic.com)
But the content's new and fresh, in fact the opposite of lame
And all you need to get to it is just to type my name (followed by .com of course)

Well the most exciting news of all is saved for last
My band is back after a break, and really k icking a$$$$$$$$$$$$
We did a show at Haverford College back on the 1st of december
And rocked for 3 hours straight; the next day i felt sorer than a New York Giants practice-squad member
I'm not sure if sorer is a word, but like i said its late and im feeling a bit absurd
(shout out to the haverford peeps that just joined the email list!)

And finally, it's finally here:
The Barsh Band's first NYC show in months , and the last of the year!

Saturday nite, December 29th, just 2 weeks away
Sandwiched right between Xmas eve and New Year's Day
So come start your nite right and catch us play!

It's at the Bitter End on Bleecker st., an early show,
So you can still party after, or go play in the snow
I'll rewrite all the info below.
