The granddaddy of all Hallmark Holidays has arrived here yet again
I hope you all get to spend it with your version of a perfect ten
And for those of you without a flame, a lone rooster or hen
Ain’t nothin wrong with some whiskey and a binge-watch of Mad Men

My Valentines day will be spent at West Hollywood’s House of Blues
At a private gala put on by Gene Simmons, one of music’s most infamous Jews
Brenna Whitaker’s band is the entertainment for the event, with a set to shake your bones
We’ll be performing with a number of stars, including Natasha Bedingfield, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and the legendary Tom Jones.

I’ve been in the studio with Brenna producing some songs, for which I’m becoming sonically smitten
And tomorrow’s event will be the live premier of “Sugar Daddy,” the brand new song we’ve written

In other songwriting news, 2 projects I wrote on are continuing to cruise:

Aloe Blacc’s “The Man” keeps working its way into peoples’ hearts
It is currently the #17 song in America on the Billboard Hot 100 charts
And it’s been in the top 10 on all of iTunes for weeks, peaking at #2
Staying busy in the studio writing more is all this makes me wanna do.

Robin McKelle and the Flytones new album “Heart of Memphis” was released last month overseas
For now it’s only available Europe and the UK, like Peugeot cars and mushy peas
Robin traveled to Memphis to record the album, which proved to be a worthwhile undertaking
The UK’s Independent calls it “A secret soul classic in the making.”

Palter Ego was featured in BMI’s Indie Spotlight in January, which made us proud like Daft Punk’s mothers
A special shout out goes to Liesl Diesel ( http://liesldieselphoto.com ) who took this photo and a great batch of others

The great trumpet player Dontae Winslow, who is currently featured on tour with Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z
Just dropped his brand new album which I played on, called “Enter The Dynasty”
It features Chick Corea, Questlove, Dennis Chambers, and many others, a serious cast pound for pound
The track “2304 West North Ave” is the first acoustic jazz song i’ve played on to be released in a couple years, and I really dig the raw sound

This coming tuesday, I reunite with a great guitar stylist Jeff Parker
I played on his record “The Relatives” almost 10 years ago, when my beard hair was much darker
Jeff augments the regular tuesday night duo of me and Kyle Crane
So come by to Salt’s Cure if you’re LA-based, the tunes will be tastefully insane

Okay I’m off to get this V-day rolling
Have fun tonight, whether you’re drinking, dancing or bowling!

Love,
Barsh

It's been quite a year in the world at large, things have gone both right and wrong
Different countries, different cities, some improving, some still shitty, separate sections of the same song
I've kept my ear to the pulse of what's happening, while keeping my project list long
Stayed focused, worked hard, kept my head on straight (mostly) and I'm rounding out 2013 strong

I currently write this from my hotel room in the Hawaiian Island of Lana'i
Where I'm doing a 2-week residency under a rainbow-laden sky
Oracle CEO Larry Ellison recently purchased this gorgeous land
And decided to bring out Verve recording artist Brenna Whitaker and her little Big Band
Hey, no doubt about it, I surely ain't complaining
Cuz a few gigs here in paradise is the opposite of draining

I've been spending tons of time in the studio, playing writing and producing
I'm enjoying working on a range of stuff, instead of one-thing-choosing
And amidst all the efforts which have been a mix of hard work and fun
A couple records I wrote on rode the charts to #1

"The Man" by Aloe Blacc, which I co-wrote with Aloe, Dan Seeff and DJ Khalil
Spent a week at #1 on the iTunes R&B chart, with its grandiose lyrics and lilting feel
The song didn't break the traditional "radio" way
But got exposed in commercials featuring Kevin Garnett and Colin Kaepernick for Beats by Dre
Khalil produced almost the entire album, and the results could be ground-breaking
It's definitely a record I enjoyed taking part in making
Shouts to Dan for introducing us, and for Khalil for bringing me into his stellar team
I have my own room in that studio now, out of which there shall come some hot steam

I wrote, played and vocal produced on "Between Two Evils" by Aubrey O'day
Which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Dance chart, and it sounds great I have to say
The producer of the majority of the record was Z Musik, whom I've worked with for years at this point
We've come a long way since working in his Brooklyn apartment when nobody gave 2 shits about our joints
Z's star is rising but his company's name is Humbled Soul, so I know his ego won't swell
We're collaborating on Macy Gray's new record, and some projects for Epic records' roster as well

Robin McKelle released our song "Fairytale Ending" as a 45" single on Expansion records in the UK
And we co-wrote 3 joints for her forthcoming "Heart of Memphis" album, I'm stoked for that release day
Robin brought her band to Memphis to record where Al Green made his hits
The music sounds soulful and tasty, like freshly ground pepper on top of cheese grits.

DJ Captain Planet and I started a project called "Van Ike"
We've been friends since rooming together in Williamsburg on a street called Ten Eyck
The tracks are sounding hot, and receiving dope feedback so far
There's a lid on it now, but over the next couple months I'll be opening up the jar

In the visual department, I have been getting back into the jazz trio flow
And there's a video of one of my new tracks on youtube, the link is below
Palter Ego has a couple video ideas currently being planned
We're stoked to get the new stuff up, all i can say is that they won't be bland.

That's it for now; I'm stoked for New Years' and 2014 overall
I wish you the best of holiday time, try to have a (and not drop the) ball!

Love,
Barsh

It's been a while since the last Barsh report, and things have thank'fully gone well
The weather's been the same in LA for the last 5 months, not cold as ice or hot as hell
Musically and lifewise I am in a solid place
But you can't stay still for long, lest you get egg upon your face

I sold my apartment in Brooklyn after 10 years in the borough
I was happy and content with it, not at all filled with sorrow
3 months after my 20th bday I arrived with naivete and drive
Got my ass kicked a few times but that just made me harder strive
My 20's went by with alot of goals met, but I've devised a new set, so the hustlin' ain't done yet

Now I'm fully LA based, for that i'm "totally stoked, brooo"
Mixing outdoor fun and sun with an ever-growing workflow

So what has this hat-collecting bowtie wearing chap been doing?
Some good stuff I shall tell you, cuz i'm amped about what's brewing

Over the last 3 months I've been in the studio alot:

I collaborated with Aloe Blacc for his upcoming Interscope release
DJ Khalil produced, I helped write songs and played some keysss

I'm also working with Mark Ballas playing in his newish band
And writing songs for his in-process record, with production by the camp of Timbaland
He was Clearchannel's artist to watch, and recent signee to BMG
Mark's future's looking bright and he's become a friend to me

Captain Planet is a great DJ/Producer and my first roommate in New York
We reconnected in LA and just finished collabing on new work
2 songs are done, with remixes coming down the pipeline
We don't yet have a name, but that should soon appear in our sightline

Collaborated with producer Z Musik on the new album by Aubrey O'day
Co-wrote a track, produced vocals, and keyboards I did play

I've done 2 sessions recording some new Sam Barsh band material
Keys bass and drums, with an organic acoustic touch, funky not etherial
Hadrien Feraud, Gene Coye, Gabe Noel and Kyle Crane are on it so far
I'll be leaking a couple songs soon, like oil from an old car

Palter Ego has been in the planning stages of a promotional campaign
The lid's on tight for now, but soon we'll pop it open like champagne
We're doing a couple shows soon, about that I do not kid, yo
And at the witzend show in september, we'll be recording for live video!

On the production side, Kosha Dillz and Adrian Hibbs have been coming to the spot
Kosha is about to tour with Matisyahu, repping a set that's hot
We've gotten 2 songs done and now I need to make some beats
So he can have an EP to spread to fans on tour and in the streets

That's the straight juice for now, I just downloaded the Simpson's arcade game for my phone so I'm gonna go play it- as Bart says, "Don't have a cow"

Love,
Barsh

In the words of overweight Albert, Hey Hey Hey!
Many things are upon us today:

Passover, Easter, Gay marriage, Obama in the middle east.
Let's all do our damn thing, and join together for one big feast
I'll make the garlic yogurt dip, and maybe some brown rice penne.
I'll be toiling in the kitchen so long my back and arms will need some Ben-Gay

So I got a request for the people of the world,
Or at least the ones on the Barsh Report email list
At this poignant time of holidays and policy
Lets cherish everyone's right to peacefully exist

So whether you're:
The owner of a firm or flimsy wrist
A sexaholic, or have never been kissed
Clean and sober, or all-day pissed
Addicted to Mountain Dew, or you prefer Sierra Mist
Missing Tom Daschle's pretty face, or longing for Bill Frist
A Chopin devotee, or a lover of Franz Liszt
A laissez-faire Mom/Dad, or rule your home with an iron fist
A reader of classic books, or use Cliff Notes to get the gist
A big "Alien" fan, or prefer "Gorillas in the Mist"
A lifelong pacifist
Or inspired to go enlist
Let's be live and let live
And let the hate cease and desist

So, as to whats up in Barshland:
Palter Ego's new album "Id, Ego, Palter Ego" is done
Look out for the release soon, artwork is being worked on and looks fun.
I am writing music with a host of different artists, and revisiting some things that have been sitting around unused
It's a good time for old ideas and new perspectives to be fused.

I'm playing and working on some music with Mark Ballas from Dancing with the Stars
Performing Monday nights throughout the DWTS season at one of LA's secretive bars
Have a few shows coming up (as stated)
Some songs I've written for other artists have been/will soon be tracked, which makes me elated
The names will be able to be mentioned in due time
But as i've learned in this game, patience and humility are sublime
So I'm bout to sign iggity off for now
Have a great holiday season, have some matza, don't have a cow (wow, 1992 reference there ya go)

Love,
Barsh

Let me thank all of you for voting in the Grammy gig of a lifetime contest last month, your support was insane!
Palter Ego didn't win, but each vote sent love through our veins

The second month of 2013 is truly now upon us
It kicked off well last night, as Beyonce's derriere got pushed up on us

Baltimore won the Super Bowl, after kicking the Niners, Broncos and Pats' ass
Groundhogs day came and went, and nobody gave a rats ass
(though it does make me wanna re-watch that Bill Murray movie, just for shits
and also "My Cousin Vinny," I love when Pesci learns how to make grits)

There's been 70 degree days in Chicago, people eating Polish Sassage while wearing shorts
Yea, chomping cured meat and deep dish is one of my hometown's favorite sports
I have Chicago on the brain, cuz in less than 2 weeks
I'm throwing a West-Coast show with my Chitown brethren that will make you shake those cheeks

It's a 2-part residency this month at the Virgil, fridays in mid-February
Consider it halloween music, cuz the grooves might just get scary

The first (Feb 15) is the Barsh-mallow Roast Part 3: Chicago - LA Connection
Featuring Chicagoans and native Angelenos, hand-picked by Barshnatural Selection
We'll be doing 2 hot sets, live remixes of simple classics
You'll be hungry for it like the pickle stork from Vlasic
The sounds will be sweet and the beats will be Jurassic

The second week, 2 bands combine into what I call "The Merge"
Palter Ego meets Monte Mar, 2 bands 2 mini sets, it's a bargain for sure (not a splurge)
We'll each do 4 or 5 songs, and combine in between
Like a Venn Diagram of the LA music scene!
Also featured on that night will be keyboardists Dave Palmer and Mikael Jorgensen from Wilco
Doing instrumental synth jams, that stuff should really be ill yo

For those of you not in LA this month, I feel badly for your weather
But you can check my websites in between shoveling snow, cuz they got some new stuff together!

Happy Black History Month, Valentines Day / International Condom Day (same day), Presidents' Day, Groundhogs Day, Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, Purim, and American Heart Month.

Love,
Barsh

Barsh Report January 2013

The new year is upon us, and despite recent sad events
It's time to set up 2013, like we're campers pitching tents.
Paying mortgates or rents, egos surviving some dents,
Of our lives, we shall all manage to make sense.

So far, Barshlife 2013 has been pleasantly intense,
Off to a fast start, this here new year did commence.
Palter Ego has released a new mixtape EP
And in the spirit of the mixtape, it's available for free.
Thanks to our friend Bryan Grone, we're featured on some top spotify playlists,
The tracks are strong, not droopy like a stereotypical gay wrist
(I poke fun, but shout out to all my LGBT friends,
I love you to no end; to be against you I'll never pretend :)

We're in the running for a Grammy contest (as you see above)
So don't be 'fraid to show some love, and fly over to that link like a white dove

Been in the studio aplenty, up to old and new tricks.
4 new Palter Ego original tracks now produced and fully mixed.
Helped vocal produce and co-write on the new EP from Aubrey O'day
Writing with a newly signed Interscope artist whose name I can't yet say.
Have a bunch of songs half-written for Sony artist Robin Mckelle
Collabos with Captain Planet and Austin Brown, so creatively feeling quite well.

Giggage is dope sauce, played New Years eve at the Playboy Mansion
Celebrating Hugh's recent wedding, the Hefner family expansion
Had a funny convo with Hef's son Marston, who grew up in the Manse
Of a normal childhood that kid never ever stood a chance.
That plus Palter Ego's upcoming House of Blues debut
Makes for one happy musician Jew.

On a non-musical note, I pledge to take a stand this year
To promote mental health awareness, and help relieve the fear
Of suffers from disorders of the brain from expressing their afflictions
And to seek treatment rather than suffer, or fall prey to addictions

After all, every disease (and that includes physical ones) stems from the brain
So having bipolar or anxiety doesn't mean that you're insane
To prevent disasters like Newtown, de-stigmatization is a beautiful thing
Thanks for hearing me out on this. Now go make the new year sing!!

Love,
Barsh

Agent 00Barsh coming at you alive and well
With that early morning smell, from the opposite of hell

That's right, i'm feelin good today, ain't no need to complain.
Up again just like the 2 train, got my morning coffee tooth-stain
Spotify a little Blue Train, Chai necklace/Blinged-out Jew chain
Re-elected Barack Hussein, hustling fast like bolts of Usain

2 scoops of cereal like my namesake Toucan
Another day on my Barsh-fabulous groove, man

Let me give a quick shout out to all the Tri-state area folks
Whose power's been gone and belongings floating like over-easy yolks
It's all love for the suffering ones, I send my best to thee
And to my friends who are helping relieve the distressed, you've payed it forward times three

So, a couple months have past since my last rhyming synopsis
@sambarsh on twitter has mini-updates (i'll tweet a link to the Barsh Report, so non-subscribers can cop this)

Residencies in Santa Monica, Hollywood and Vegas have been completed
Songs written, tracks recorded, videos produced, deadlines defeated

A couple fruits of my labor are linked here without encryption
Here is the (written in rhyme, of course) description:

The newest Palter Ego video has garnered crazy attention
Gossip blog godfather PerezHilton.com gave it a top-billing mention

It features us doing our remix of the new 007 anthem "Skyfall"
Barsh as Bond Villain, Palter as Bond Girl, making it was a ball
Filmed by director Ron Eigen in the House of Rock Mansion
I play a clear plexiglass piano, the newest part of my instrumental expansion

here it is:   (make sure to watch through to the end, the money shot is in the last chorus)

The other half of our brand new content is a Mixtape/EP
That in the spirit of the mixtape circuit, is entirely free!
"Above the Covers" features cover remixes alive and in your face
In a stripped down, electro format featuring just voice, keys and Moog bass

The link is here:

And you'll be in possession of our latest collection very, very soon.

Thats it for the time being, keep up the fine living.
And from the bottom of my stomach, I wish you all a great Thanksgiving!
