Barsh is coming back to Chitown

To all my chitown faithful, I send happy winter wishes
Its so cold right now I find myself enjoying washing dishes
For that hot water upon my hands most surely feels sublime
In the midst of this post-new years eve and pre-groundhog day time

I am writing not from spite
But in fact just to invite
All of you, not to a fight,
But to something that just might
Bring you musical delight.

For Chicago I've been yearning
So quite soon Ill be returning
For a show that reunites me with
A fabulous guitar style-smith
His name is Jeff Parker, in case you didn't know
Last we played to together was quite long ago
4 years, and maybe mo.

You know him from tortoise, isotope 2-seventeen
And his own bands which abound on the chi-town scene

Were playing music from jeffs record we made
A while back, called "the relatives," really high-grade
And we're playing some music that I wrote as well
Were I Dennis the menace, I'd say that "that's swell"

So come one and come all out to martyrs on the nor' side
It'll be more enjoyable than eating ice cream while taking a wild boar ride

(the degree of how much more enjoyable it will be depends on how appealing the latter sounds to you; either way it will be great)

LA reminiscin

Hey everyone I'm quickly back
Just finished editing a track
For "The Years" upcoming record treat
Its called "Broken Heart" and its not sad, but bittersweet

And after the night's final listen
"Broken Heart" got me reminiscin'..

About 11 months ago today
I was spending a week in warm LA.
I flew in from New York on Super Bowl sunday
Got picked up at LAX by my friend Andrew Crowley
Made a quick stop at his home, that's in Marina Del Rey
Went to Trader Joe's, got some supplies then made our way
Up to watch the game at the plush home of soul star Macy Gray

Damn that was alot of fun
I'm still amped that the Giants won
I ate alot and drank a ton
Corona, Rum and Ketel One

Went back that night to the Standard downtown
And fully clothed, still drunk I laid myself down
Turned on the TV and fell fast asleep
To highlights of the Patriots' failed sweep

That week was spent preparing for
One special concert, wish there could have been more
The Brand New Heavies were the centerpiece of the night
Then 3 other artists sang with us and damn they got it right
Eric Roberson, Vikter Duplaix and Caron Wheeler too
Made for a great concert and one very Happy Jew (actch maybe two)

Anyway, I love LA, but not in that star-worship way.

I think there are alot of people being mad creative there
And mountain ranges and big breasts are not bad things at which to stare
That being said, about New York I aint complainin
After all its January 7 and its not snowing its just rainin
Now that is all your going to get tonite from this here head
I'm off to bed

First bloaaaag of the year

Welcome to the Barsh report's year-has-begun edition
After many nights of waiting now i've brought it to fruition
If i happened to be talking I would ask you all to listen
But since this is cyber-text, my groggy voice y'all will be missin

By this point your computer's on, the screen's begun to glisten
And you're amped to read the blog-version of late-nite drunken pissin'

Well 2009 has started and its only 5 days young
And I feel it will be packed with good stuff; like a horse - well hung.
Some folks may hold a bleaker look at what the year may bring
But to them I say, take that bleak look and shoot it from your sling(shot)

While the news tries to depress you, rest assured I shall caress you
With the best I have to give I'll try to bless you and de-stress you
Through my bloggy rhymes impress you and then virtually undress you
Occasion'ly my text will test you, temporarily possess you
But i promise by the end you will be glad you read this cesspool

that i call a blog
(god i dont miss the Hong Kong smog)

OK back on task, ive spent the last few weeks in flux
From a good friend's wedding weekend (no I didnt wear a tux)
To the confines of Bar Harbor, Maine, and to and from my home
In a little town called Brooklyn, which does not quite look like Rome

I've played a few cool shows, one with the Barsh Band in NY
House of Blues in Chicago and Jeff C's house on MDI
Did a WGN TV spot with Ross Bon's Mighty Blue Kings
Where we shared the stage with the world's fastest golfer; my how quick he swings!

Speaking of swings, now I'm getting back into it
All this holiday drinking's made me not want to do it

So its time to go on detox, cuz last nite I had 6 beers
Could have been feeling real tipsy, even crying liquor tears
But I didnt feel a damn thing, got my tolerance up high
And I don't think that I need to taste guinness next time I cry
So for a few days beer and whiskey its: bye-bye

Sigh..

Its fuckin late, sorry to swear,
I feel like friggin Yogi Bear
Right now my mind is sauce like marinara
Smudged around like bad mascara
Awkward, like a character that's played by Michael Cera
Out of sync with the moment, like a club DJ spinning Pantera
Forgetting important things, like the mom in "Home Alone" (Catherine O'hara)

OK I'm off to bed for now, but I leave you with this
If you're in the City Friday, come check some sonic bliss
My project with Maurice Brown called "Lose Your Mind" is appearing
Featuring the MC "Niles" who is undoubtedly worth hearing
Check the Flya, its cheap cova, and there's 3 bands for the price of 1
And I'm playing in 2 out of 3, so it's 2/3 the fun!

(that sounds wrong but i'm too tired to over-analyze)
